Tiritiri Martangi Lighthouse
Tiritiri Martangi lighthouse is New Zealand s oldest working lighthouse it marks the approach to
Auckland harbor it first lit up in 1865 the light was fueled by oil and needed a lighthouse keeper
to look after it at all times 150 years later it is powered by a white flashing light every 15 seconds
the light is now powered by solar panels and no longer needs a light house keeper the light can be seen for 33 kilometers it has been unmanned since 1984 but if you look towards Rangitoto at night you can see the light flashing
